Day 18 - Thursday, May 28

Welcome to Day 18 of eLearning. The topic today is half-life and rates of nuclear decay.

NOTICE: Packet pages are available online and can be printed as needed. You would not have any of these pages since we started this unit after the dismissal of school due to COVID19.

Here's What to Do:

  1. Video - Half Life    (13 min)

Mr. H discusses rates of decay and the concept of a half-life. He mixes in a little M into the equation to explain quantitatively how a half-life value can be used to quantitatively predict the drop off in the amount of isotope relative to time.

  2. Check Chapter 19.3-4 Reading    (5 - 10 min)

The Reading Guide due today was the Chapter 19.3-4 Reading Guide. View the answers and side-margin notes in preparation for the upcoming WebAssign.

  3. WebAssign - Half Life    (15 - 30 min)

Get our your calculator and use the mathematics presented in the video to complete the last WebAssign of your STEM Chemistry career.  You got this!

  4. Video - Radiation Exposure    CANCELLED

The video has been cancelled. Of course, you can find plenty on the topic via a YouTube search. But instead of watching the video, I would prefer that you read about next week's lesson plan. There will be a single activity to complete next week.

*** Take attendance by 1 pm. Check your email for an attendance form from the Attendance office.

Coming Next Class: Next week is our last week. There will be a short video (not related to a Chemistry topic) and a single assignment. The assignment will be summative in nature and require some thought and reflection.
