Unit 4 - Quiz 3

2014-15 School Year


The third quiz of the Newtonian Model of Motion unit will be taken at the end of class on Wednesday, March 4. The quiz will be on the short side, be very mathematical, and address the following objectives:

  1. The student should understand the concept of equilibrium as being associated with a balance of forces and be able to apply the concept to a variety of situations.

  2. The student should be able to use SOH CAH TOA analyze a static equilibrium situation (e.g., a hanging sign) for both symmetrical and unsymetrical situations.

  3. The student should be able to use Newton's second law and SOH CAH TOA to analyze situations involving an angled force accelerating an object across a horizontal surface.

  4. The student should be able to analyze an inclined plane situation, determine the components of the gravity force, and use the components to determine an acceleration or to determine a force value that causes a specific acceleration.
