Unit 2 - Quiz 2

2014-15 School Year


The second quiz of the Wave Mechanics unit will be taken at the end of class on Friday, October 31. The quiz will address the following objectives:

  1. The student should be able to predict how a wave will behave when it reflects off a free end, reflects off a fixed end, interferes with another wave, reaches the boundary with a second medium.

  2. The student should understand the nature of a sound wave and the properties that describe a sound wave.

  3. The student should understand the mathematical basis of the deciBel scale and be able to mathematically relate the deciBel rating, sound intensity, distance from the source, and power of the source.

  4. The student should be able to use a standing wave model to analyze a wave pattern and to determine relationships between the wave pattern, vibrational frequency, string length, wavelength, and speed.
