Unit 5 Schedule
2010-2011

The following schedule information was prepared at the beginning of the unit.  It's role is to serve as an organizational tool for students to find both required and helpful resources relevant to daily activities. The schedule is updated as the unit progresses.

Day 1:  Monday, November 15

Lesson Plan:
  • Organization:  grades sheets, comment on tests, intro to new unit; pass back lab notebooks
  • Discuss coefficients as mole ratios;  Packet - Stoichiometry Introduction (pp. 1-2)
  • Demo:  Al + CuCl2 --> ...;  observe consumption of reactants as witnessed by the color change of solution

Homework:

Announcements:
  • Stoichiometry (and the ability to solve stoichiometry problems) is the most central and most used skill in chemistry. Learn it well now so you can use it well later.

Online Help:

Day 2:  Tuesday, November 16

Lesson Plan:
  • Review concept of mole ratio; use of molar mass to determine amount of reactant and/or products (p. 2)
  • Introduce Mole Island; do pp. 3-4
  • Demo:  Alka Seltzer and vinegar in varying amounts
  • If time allows, start StoiCHEoMISTRY (pp. 5-6)

Homework:

Announcements:
  • Stoichiometry (and the ability to solve stoichiometry problems) is the most central and most used skill in chemistry. Learn it well now so you can use it well later.
  • Take special notice of the Academic Stimulus package described on the Honors Chemistry home page. It's a great opportunity to learn good habits, earn some extra credit, and make for a more profitable class.
