Unit 8a Schedule
2013-2014


The following schedule information was prepared at the beginning of the unit.  It is not fixed in stone. It's role is to serve as an organizational tool for students to find both required and helpful resources relevant to daily activities. The schedule is seldom updated as the unit progresses; if we fall behind, then topics or depth of topics will be reduced in order to keep the overall pace required to maximize coverage of the entire curriculum. 


Day 1: Tuesday, January 21

Lesson Plan:
  • Organization: seats, notebooks, packets, grade comments, course recs, second semester preview, etc.
  • NL1-Pass the Water Please! Lab - prep, do, observe, discuss, conclude.
  • Discuss: inertia and Newton's first law of motion; 4-star demos

Day 2: Wednesday, January 22

Lesson Plan:
  • Pre-Conceptions (p. 2); use Socrative.
  • Discuss inertia and Newton's first law; types of forces;  balanced vs. unbalanced forces; some 4-star demos; discuss Reading Sheet on Lesson 1
  • Inertia, Force and Motion; do selected Qs from p. 1
  • Do NL2-Galileo for a Day Lab as a demonstration lab

Homework:
  • Complete NL2-Galileo for a Day Lab 
  • Minds On Physics - complete assignments NL1 of Newton's Laws module.

  • If you need to discuss your semester 1 grade or to look at the final exam, please come in and do so.

Day 3: Thursday, January 23

Lesson Plan:
    The focus of the day is answering: What is mass? What is force? What is acceleration?
    • Warm-up: pp. 3-4, #1-5 of Packet (What is acceleration?)
    • Discuss Misconceptions regarding force and motion (p.2); do p. 4. #6-9 as a check for understanding.
    • Discuss individual force types: p. 5
    • Do Lab NL3-Wait!  Hmmm.  Gee. Lab; report/record class data
    • If time allows: Do Mass and Weight (Packet, p. 11) (What is mass? and How is it different than weight?)

    • Stay on top of your textbook reading, lab work and Minds On Physics. They are intended as daily tools that will make you more efficient in class. There is a tremendous synergy between at-home work and in-class work. Doing well in class will make doing well at home easier. And doing (and even doing well) at home will make doing well in class easier. That's synergy!
